We love to read in 6th Grade ELA!

Look at what our class loves reading! When you've finished a book that was a book you'd like to recommend to a classmate, please feel free to add a post to our wall.

Common Core

In June 2010, the Illinois Board of Education, along with 42 other states adopted the Common Core Standards. The new standards define the knowledge and skills students should have by grade level. These standards are aligned with college and work based expectations, include rigorous content and application of knowledge through higher-order thinking skills, build upon strengths and lessons of current state standards, and are research based.

Mastery Learning

The 6th Grade ELA team comprised of Ms. Downey, Mr. Janzen, Mrs. Pomagier, and Ms. Young believe strongly that all students can learn and be successful in school. We do not assign grades based on single isolated assignments or tests, but rather believe in the practice of Mastery Learning. In this lens, students continue to build on skills as learners until they demonstrate that they have mastered a concept. Learning is a fluid activity and students are constantly working on new concepts that build on previously learned concepts. Therefore, students must continue to demonstrate knowledge of key concepts throughout their experience in 6th grade ELA.
